Description

Panel One: Cal is tidying up his desk and turns to look when he hears a knock at the door. SFX: Knock Knock

Panel Two: Jan, Matt, Blanche and Doc, all wearing casual clothes, come through the doors. They're all smiles and all but Jan are carrying Cal's things. "Go~od morning!" Jan says, cheerily. There are music notes around her words.

Panel Three: The crew's mood suddenly turns to disgust at the terrible state of the room. There are gross effect tendrils coming towards them.

Panel Four: Cal grabs at his right arm and looks down, saying, "Yeah, sorry, I know, it's-" "Same as always! UGH!" interrupts Blanche, as she walks past him with a cardboard box. Jan is making a beeline for Cal, and we can just see Doc behind her, with Cal's suitcase.

Panel Five: Jan gives Cal a big hug and says, "Oh, I missed you!" In the background, Blanche is grumbling to herself. "When will he learn? I can't believe that..."

Panel Six: Matt comes in behind Jan with a wooden crate in his arms. "It's been less than a day," he says. Jan's released Cal from the hug and gives Matt a reproachful look. "I know, but I still worry."

Panel Seven: Cal smiles and says, "Good to see you, too.

Author Note

Whoo! Time for some familiar faces! Speaking of faces, I enjoyed drawing the expressions, but then again, I always do. It was also a lot of fun working out their casual clothes for this segment, so I'm gonna tell you about it!

For Doc, I kept her in comfy, yet slightly fancy clothes. She's no-nonsense but still feminine, so I gave her a floral print and put a lace panel in her shirt to echo the lace on her field uniform. Blanche is practical, hence her wearing easy braids when out in the field, so I've literally let her hair down for this part. But she's still Blanche, so I put her in a cute top with a square neckline (straight lines = stability) and handy cargo pants because pockets. For both Jan and Matt, given that field nurses tend to be the workhorses of the group, I gave them more athletic-style clothes. Jan's wearing a regular t-shirt and cuffed jean shorts, and I put her hair up in a ponytail. I wanted very casual, summery vibes, to match her personality. Matt's wearing a Yersinia Academy t-shirt with some stylish track pants, because even though he's been hauling boxes all morning, chances are good he's still going to go for a run after this. I know I said this on the anniversary, but - Thank you. This is seriously one of the best birthdays I've ever had. If Little Me knew what I was doing right now, she'd be amazed. Not only am I making comic books, but people are actually enjoying them, and that's incredibly flattering and humbling at the same time.
