Description

Panel One: The group is chatting as they eat, and are having a lively conversation. Geri is rolling her eyes and throwing up her hands at something Royce has said. They have a smug smile on their face and are pointing into the air as they talk. Cal and Zane are both gesturing and smiling.

Panel Two: "Anyway, Cal, were you doing an apprenticeship before you came here?" Zane asks, as he cuts himself another slice of his breakfast. "No, but I've tried a lot of things," Cal answers.

Panel Three: "Cool!" says Geri, smiling, "Which job were you doing last?"

Panel Four: Cal looks down at his hand, which now has a death grip on his glass. SFX: -clench- He looks uncertain as he answers, "Oh, uhm - I don't really wanna talk about it." "You can tell us," Royce says.

Panel Five: From off-panel, Cal says, "I... Don't think you wanna know..." Zane smiles and gestures dismissively with his fork as he quips, "Eh, it couldn't have been that bad."

Panel Six: Cal is glaring at Zane, his head low, and we can see him grit his teeth. The background has turned to a dark gradient that fades to black, overlaid with white lines like cracks in stone.

Author Note

In which Zane crams his big stompy Goth boot RIGHT into his mouth. Oof. This is also the first time we see Cal actually mad about something, and, uhm - Yeah.
