Description

Panel One: Cal continues his impression of DJ's dad. He has one hadn behind his back and he gestures with the other as he says, "Impossible! I specifically said that laughing was not allowed!" He continues, "How can he study and smile at the same time? I know I can't!" DJ is still in his chair, now doubled over with laughter. "Ahaha! I can't breathe!" he says. Cal's still going, "The nerve! My own son!"

Panel Two: Cal is back in his bed, climbing under the covers. "Okay, now I can go to bed," he says.

Panel Three: DJ is wiping tears of laughter from his eyes and smiling. "Why's that?" he asks.

Panel Four: A tall, close-up panel of DJ, who looks shocked, as though he's realized something. Cal is saying, from off-panel. "I realized earlier that I hadn't heard you laugh, yet."

Panel Five: Cal sitting up in bed. He's looking off to the side with a small smile as he says, "It's... Nice to hear."

Panel Six: A close-up of items on DJ's desk as the two of them finish their conversation; a coffee mug is center stage. "But seriously," says Cal, "You need to get some sleep, okay?" "We'll see," says DJ, "Good night, Cal." "Good night, DJ."

Author Note

I don't think Cal realizes what a Big Deal this is for DJ. Poor guy probably can't remember the last time he laughed that hard.

But at least he can laugh like that, and that's the important part.

Steel City Con was a bunch of fun! It felt great to be back out there, and I got a lead on another con to vend at - Sci-Fi Valley Con. And becasue so many people asked, I will be putting my buttons and stickers up for sale. Keep an eye out for that - I want to have them up soon!
