Description
Panel One: Cloose-up of Cal's face. He's smiling a little, but his eyes look sad. "Thank you, DJ," he says.
Panel Two: The two of them. DJ looks worried and he asks, "Is something wrong?" Cal waves his hand and smiles nervously. "No, it's nothing!"
Panel Three: DJ looks a little stern and says. "Cal, you're a Carrier, now. We don't lie." Cal is turned away from DJ, towards the railing, his shoulder slumped. SFX: >sigh< Cal says, "It's just..."
Panel Four: Profile view of both of them. "I don't really feel like celebrating my birthday this year," Cal continues, putting his hands on the railing and looking towards the horizon. Behind Cal, DJ looks alarmed.
Panel Five: Page-wide panel. The bottom of the panel is in line with the top of the railing. Cal is leaning on the railing, resting his forearms on it. One hand is dangling off the side of the railing/breaking out of the frame. "Well..." says DJ. Cal is looking sideways, towards DJ, who is leaning a bit over his left shoulder, and holding up the box. DJ continues, looking hopeful, "If you don't want to celebrate your birthday, can we celebrate the alignment?"

DJ may not have thought this through, but you gotta admit that's a good save!
I LOVE that last panel. Not only did the art gods smile upon me so I could make it really pretty, I was able to do some good visual storytelling! Cal's withdrawing, hence the breakout effect. But you can tell that DJ's getting to him because his words are also leaving the frame / getting into Cal's space.
I try to do fun things like this when I can.
Anyway, in personal news - PLAGUE has come to my house! Luckily I'm clean so far, but Evie and the kiddo both have it. T_T I'm doing the reverse quarantine thing and saying in the library and the drawing room, away from the sickies.
