Plague Rat – Chapter 5, Page 12

Description

Panel One: Narration: "Friday Afternoon: Autopsy 101" A far, wide angle panel of the operating theatre classroom. The students are standing on the floor, in teams surrounding four tables, each with a body covered by a sheet on top. They're a mix of doctors, nurses and researchers. The doctor students are wearing pale green rubber gloves and matching aprons over their uniforms, but have removed their capes. Otherwise, everyone is in regular uniform. Two senior TAs are off to the right, dressed in full green smocks. In the center of the room is the teacher, Dr. LaFontaine. She's wearing a plague doctor uniform and seated in a hot pink sport-style wheelchair. She gestures as she says, "Class, today you will perform a basic autopsy."

Panel Two: Group shot of Cal and DJ, along with their team. There are four nursing students and two researcher students with them. One of the nursing students holds a clip board. They're looking off-panel, towards Dr. LaFontaine as she continues from off-panel: "You know the procedure. Take your time, record your observations, and, most importantly, work together!"

Panel Three: Overhead shot of the body, still covered by the sheet. The students are gathered around it, staring down. Cal is adjusting his glove, while DJ's hand is raised slightly.

Panel Four: Extreme closeup of DJ's gloved hand as he grabs and lifts the sheet just above the corpse's head. SFX: -LIFT-

Panel Five: DJ, his hand still holding the sheet in place, looks over the body towards Cal (off-panel). "Ready?" he asks.

Panel Six: Cal looks up at DJ. "Ready," he answers.

Author Note

Time for class! Cal's had quite a morning, now to continue it with his first autopsy! Big thanks to G12G4 for their help in writing this scene - Thier experience has been invaluable in getting this bit even partially correct.

And don't worry, I'm not into drawing gore for the sake of it. It's an autopsy, it's very clinical. If you've seen a medical TV drama, true crime show, or reality show where you follow EMS teams, you've probably seen worse than what I'm going to draw.
