Plague Rat – Chapter 2, Page 12

Description

Panel One: The clock on the clocktower outside. It's night, and the time reads just past 10 PM.

Panel Two: From above, Cal is flopped on his neatly-made bed. The room is dimly-lit, and there is a clear path around the bed, ringed in clutter and trash. Cal is now wearing pajamas and his eyes are closed. "What a day," he says to himself.

Panel Three: Cal opens his eyes and thinks, with a small smile on his face. "But it's not so bad. Sure, the room's a wreck, but that's fixable. And DJ's really-"

Panel Four: A hand flips on the light switch with a "Clik."

Panel Five: "Gah!" Cal cries out, and covers his eyes with his arm.

Panel Six: "Oh! Sorry!" DJ apologizes and turns the lights back off.

Panel Seven: DJ runs a hand nervously through his hair. "Sorry! Reflex. I'm not used to anyone else being here." Cal props himself up on his elbows and smiles. "It's okay. I'm not used to sharing a room, either."

Panel Eight: Cal rolls onto his stomach and sniffs. "Is that - Coffee?"

Author Note

We're coming to the end of Cal's first day at Yersinia! He really has had a day, huh? Comes into a new city, enrolls in school, meets his first roommate ever, then has what's probably one of the most awkward dinners of his life, followed by an even MORE awkward bathing experience... I mean, it's a wonder he hasn't collapsed already. And let's spare a thought for DJ, who suddenly has this new guy in his space who's pretty cool so far but who doesn't seem to know how anything works.

I'm really proud of the lighting on this page, though. It took a while, but it was SO worth it!

So, I've been making plans for 2022, including a Patreon! I'm going to start off with something simple, like a $1 support tier so you can see a week ahead. I'll add more as I think of things, but for now I'll keep things simple. I'll make a proper blog post when I get it up and running, which will probably be either later today or tomorrow. Pretty much as soon as I finish next week's page.

Here's to a safe New Year!
