Description

Panel One: Side view of Cal, still crouched, as he holds up his other hand, a bean pinched between his fingers. He gasps in mock surprise. "Look!" he says, "Another bean!" The little boy starts to laugh. SFX: HaHa! Three other children have come by to look: The one who used to have the watering can on their head, the one in the star shirt who was having dirt thrown at them, and the blond boy in the striped shirt who was fencing with trowels. The look amazed and delighted. SFX: Whoa! Cool!

Panel Two: Long shot. Cal stands and crosses him arms, looking imperious. "I'll bet you all have beans in your ears so you won't have to listen to Miss Fern," he says. Behind him, Fern is unsuccessfully trying to hide her grin behind her hand. In front of him, with their backs to us, the crowd of eight children are loudly protesting the accusation. "No!" they say, ""Hey!", "Nuh-uh!"

Panel Three: Closer shot of Cal as he leans sideways down towards the boy he performed the magic trick on. He places his hand behide his mouth in an exaggerated manner, as if to hide his talking from Fern. "I don't blame you," he says, in an obvious stage whisper, "She is pretty loud." The children laugh and Fern shouts, from off-panel, "HEY!" SFX: >giggle<

Panel Four: Cal looks over his shoulder at Fern and winks at her. She pouts angrily back at him. "HMPH!" SFX: >wink!<

Panel Five: Side view of Cal and the children. He claps his hands and says, "Okay! Do you all wanna be late for dinner?" SFX: >clap!< >clap!< "NO!" the children shout, in unison.

Panel Six: Closeup of Cal's hand as he hold up the bag of beans to plant. "Then we better get moving!" he says, "Let's go!"
